Mission Statement
The Mission of the AFL Umpires' Association is to:
- Provide the highest standard of collective representation to all AFL Umpires regardless of category, experience or location
- Encourage and foster the highest standards of officiating and citizenship amongst AFL Umpires on and off the field; and
- Promote and advance the institutions of Umpiring and the Game
Values Statement:
The AFL Umpires' Association is committed to fostering its' core values of: Respect Integrity Fairness Trust.
Principles:
The AFL Umpires' Association:
- must be a democratic organisation, which encourages and facilitates the involvement of its membership in the decision making process;
- believes effective collective bargaining and industrial relations strategies are fundamental to the establishment of a career path for AFL umpires which will provide them with appropriate rewards commensurate with the wealth of the Game;
- sees officiating at the highest level as a profession and a career, not a recreation or a hobby;
- believes its role and responsibility is not limited to collective bargaining but extends to promoting, protecting and servicing the needs of the individual;
- believes it is its responsibility to establish, control and administer ancillary career services and funds essential for the fulfilment of the career path;
- recognises that it is an ambassador of umpiring and the sport and as such has a responsibility to positively promote these institutions;
- must enshrine its values (ie. Respect, Integrity, Fairness and Trust) into every element of the organisations activities.
Objectives:
- Improve the management and structure of the AFLUA
- Ensure an appropriate welfare system is developed and implemented for the benefit of all AFL umpires.
- Maximise umpires' potential through best practice employee relations services
- Build and maintain a financially viable and independent Association
- Within the context of the Game maximise the promotion and development opportunities for umpires and Umpiring.
